Grading

The Grading page has two sub-tabs: Grade Scales and Promotion Rules. Click the tab labels to switch between them.

A grade scale maps numeric score ranges to letter grades or descriptors (e.g. A+, A, B, C, F). Scales are applied when teachers publish results so that each student’s raw score is automatically translated to a grade label.

  1. Click Create Grade Scale.

  2. Enter a name for the scale (e.g. Standard 100-point Scale, Primary School Scale).

  3. Add rows for each grade band. For each row, specify:

    • Min score — the lowest percentage that qualifies for this grade
    • Max score — the highest percentage in this band
    • Grade label — the letter or descriptor (e.g. A+, Pass, Distinction)
  4. Continue adding rows until the full 0–100 range is covered.

  5. Click Save.

Click the pencil icon on any grade scale card to open the edit form. Adjust any band or label and save.

Click the trash icon on a grade scale card and confirm. You cannot delete a scale that is currently assigned to an active result sheet — remove it from those result sheets first.

Promotion rules define the minimum conditions a student must meet to be promoted to the next class at the end of a term or academic year. The system uses these thresholds when generating promotion reports.

RuleDescription
Minimum attendance (%)A student must have attended at least this percentage of school days to be eligible for promotion. Example: 75 means 75% attendance is the minimum.
Minimum average score (%)A student must achieve at least this average percentage across all subjects to be eligible for promotion. Example: 40 means a 40% average is required.

Enter the thresholds and click Save.

A student is marked eligible for promotion only if they meet both thresholds:

  1. Attendance percentage ≥ minimum attendance rule
  2. Average score across all subjects ≥ minimum average score rule

If either threshold is not met, the student is flagged as not eligible on the promotion report, and the class teacher or admin can review the case before making a final decision.

Only users with the Settings — edit permission (or Grades — manage for grade scales specifically) can create, edit, or delete grade scales and modify promotion rules.
