Homework & Assignments

Homework & Assignments is the daily-engagement feature of Premeena. Teachers post homework to a class+subject; students see it on their dashboard, submit text and files; teachers grade with feedback; parents see what’s pending. Students earn shiny stickers for high scores — clickable confetti included.

  1. Teacher posts homework for a specific class + subject. Add a title, instructions, due date, max marks, and attach reference files if needed.

  2. The students enrolled in that class see it instantly on My Assignments → Pending and on their dashboard’s “Homework” card.

  3. Parents see it as a row on their child dashboard’s “Homework” card (top 5 pending/overdue items).

  4. Students submit — type a response, upload files (PDFs, images, anything ≤ 25 MB), tap Submit. They can resubmit anytime before it’s graded.

  5. Teacher reviews submissions on the assignment detail page: a DataTable of students with their files, an inline score input, an optional feedback field, and a Save button. Bulk “Mark reviewed” is one click.

  6. The student sees the grade on My Assignments → Graded — a calm celebratory banner appears at 80%+ with a tier sticker (🏆 / ⭐ / 🎉). Tapping the sticker fires confetti.

  7. Parents see the updated status on their dashboard card.

Most of the setup happens elsewhere in the system. Homework just reads from it.

  1. Make sure each grade has its subjects configured. Go to Settings → Grade Subjects and confirm the subjects offered at each grade. The “New assignment” form filters the subject dropdown by the picked class’s grade — if a grade has no subjects configured, the form falls back to all org subjects (with a hint to the teacher).

  2. Assign teachers to classes. For homework, the system trusts two sources of truth:

    • Timetable entriesSections & Scheduling → Timetable. Schedule the teacher for (class, day, period, subject). They get scope for that exact (class, subject) pair.
    • Class teacher (homeroom) — on the class detail page, set the primary teacher. They get scope for any subject in that class.
  3. Verify student enrollments. Homework is only visible to students with an active class enrollment in the assignment’s class. Check Sections → IX-A → Roster to confirm.

  4. Optional: configure document requirements. Submission files are stored in your S3 bucket scoped per student/per assignment. If you haven’t set up storage, the file upload will fail. See Settings → Storage (if available in your install).

  1. Open Assignments from the sidebar.

  2. Click New assignment (top right).

  3. Fill the form:

    • Title — e.g. “Chapter 3 problem set”
    • Instructions — what students should do (optional, supports line breaks)
    • Class — only classes you teach. Selecting one auto-fills the grade.
    • Subject — narrowed to subjects offered at that grade
    • Term — usually the active term
    • Due date & time — students can submit until this moment without a “late” badge
    • Max marks — used to validate your future grading inputs
    • Attachments — optional. Drop PDFs, images, etc. They upload to S3 on save.
  4. Click Post assignment.

  5. Every enrolled student in the class gets a notification with a link to the assignment.

Click any assignment row to open its detail page.

The stat strip at the top tells you everything at a glance:

CardWhat it means
Class strengthTotal students currently enrolled in this section. The hint shows “N not yet started” so you know how many to chase.
SubmittedNumber of students who have turned something in (submitted + graded), over class size. “N late” hint when any are past the deadline.
Awaiting reviewStudents who submitted but haven’t been graded yet — your queue.
GradedHow many you’ve finished. The progress bar shows percent reviewed.

The Submissions table at the bottom is where you do the work:

  • Click any student-uploaded file to download it through the PDF/download queue (bottom-right tray on the page).
  • Type a score (validated against max marks — out-of-range turns the input red and disables Save).
  • Add feedback for the student.
  • Hit Save — the student gets a notification with their score.

For students whose work is fine and doesn’t need a numeric score, select their rows with the checkbox and hit Mark N reviewed in the section header.

If the Class strength card shows “N not yet started”, a Remind N button appears in the Submissions header. Tap it — every student in the class who hasn’t submitted (or is still in draft) gets a notification.

ButtonWhat it does
EditChange title, instructions, due date, or max marks. Class/subject/grade/term are locked once posted (changing them would invalidate submissions).
DuplicateOpen the create form pre-filled with everything from this assignment. Title gets (copy) appended; due date jumps +7 days. Adjust and post for the next cycle.
CloseStops new submissions. Existing submissions remain visible and gradable. The status pill flips to Closed.
DeleteRemoves the assignment and every submission tied to it. Cannot be undone — confirms before deleting.

  1. Open My Assignments from the sidebar. The default Pending tab shows everything due that you haven’t started.

  2. Click any row to open the detail page.

  3. Read the instructions and download any teacher-provided files.

  4. Type your response in the textarea (optional), and/or attach files — PDFs, images, code, anything up to 25 MB each.

  5. Hit Save draft to keep working later, or Submit when you’re done.

  6. Submitting after the deadline still works while the assignment is open — you’ll just get a small “Submitted late” badge on your row.

  7. Before grading, you can resubmit anytime — the form replaces your previous text and lets you add/remove files.

TabWhat’s there
PendingNot yet submitted, due date hasn’t passed
OverdueNot yet submitted, due date has passed — top priority
SubmittedYou’ve submitted, teacher hasn’t graded yet
GradedDone — shows your score and feedback. High scores get a sticker (🏆 100% / ⭐ 90%+ / 🎉 80%+).

When you score 80% or higher on an assignment, a colorful banner appears at the top of the detail page with a sticker matching your tier:

ScoreStickerLabel
100%TrophyPerfect score!
90 – 99%StarExcellent!
80 – 89%Party popperGreat work!

Tap the sticker to fire confetti. The trophy gets fireworks; the star gets star-shaped confetti; the party popper gets a classic burst. Tap as many times as you like.

You’ll also see a small sticker next to your score on the Graded tab.

Open your school dashboard. The Homework card on the right shows the top 5 pending/overdue items across all your children, with color-coded status pills:

PillMeaning
Amber — PendingNot started, due in the future
Red — OverdueNot started, past the deadline
Sky — SubmittedTurned in, awaiting teacher’s grade
Emerald — GradedDone

If you have more than one child, use the child switcher at the top of the dashboard to see each one.

The card is read-only — it gives you the what and when so you can prompt your child without needing to log in as them.

Most likely the teacher isn’t scoped to that class+subject. The error toast names the exact class and subject. Fix one of:

  • Add a timetable entry linking the teacher to the (class, subject) — Sections & Scheduling → Timetable
  • Set the teacher as the class teacher (homeroom) of that class — class detail page

If the teacher has no scope at all (no timetable + no homeroom assignments), the error says “You aren’t assigned to any class yet.”

Three things to verify, in order:

  1. Is the student logged in as a student role? Parents and other roles don’t see “My Assignments” in the sidebar.

  2. Is the student in the right class? Compare the assignment’s class with the student’s active enrollment (Sections → IX-A → Roster).

  3. Did the teacher post to the right class? A common mistake is picking “X-A” (grade 10) when you meant “IX-A” (grade 9). The dropdown labels look similar.

Can a teacher extend the deadline for one student?

Section titled “Can a teacher extend the deadline for one student?”

Not today. You can extend the global due date (Edit → Due date), which applies to everyone, or accept a late submission and choose not to penalize it.

The assignment and every submission tied to it are removed permanently. Files are deleted from S3 on the next cleanup pass. If you only want to stop new submissions, use Close instead.

Can I download all submissions for offline grading?

Section titled “Can I download all submissions for offline grading?”

Today you download files one at a time through the queue. A “Bulk download” zip action is on the roadmap — until then, the queue lets you click through them fast without leaving the page.

Uploaded files live in your school’s S3 bucket. They stay until the assignment is deleted or your storage policy expires them. There’s no fixed expiration on Premeena’s side.
