The CBSE CGPA to percentage formula
Under the CBSE grading system for Class 10, overall percentage was indicated by multiplying CGPA by 9.5:
Percentage = CGPA × 9.5 · CGPA = Percentage ÷ 9.5
So a CGPA of 8.6 is about 81.7%, and a 10 CGPA is 95%. The same multiplier gives an indicative percentage for a single subject: a grade point of 9 (A2) is about 85.5%.
CBSE arrived at 9.5 by looking at how students with an A1 grade had actually scored: their marks averaged about 95, against a grade point of 10. The result is an indicative conversion, not a recalculation of your real marks. If an admission form asks for actual marks and your marksheet has them, use those.
How CBSE CGPA is calculated
CGPA is the average of the grade points in the five main subjects. The additional (sixth) subject is left out. With grades A1, A2, A1, B1 and A2, the grade points are 10, 9, 10, 8 and 9. They add up to 46, and 46 ÷ 5 gives a CGPA of 9.2, about 87.4%.
